Does your troop divide your scouts into two or more units if it exceeds 48 members?

there is a limit?? (IMG:http://www.pengakap.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) According to the material I received from the Woodbadge Part I, the minimum members for a troop is 18, which makes up 3 patrols with minimum 6 members each. On the other hand, the maximum members for a troop is 48, which makes up 6 patrols with maximum 8 members each. It makes sense for maintaining a patrol between 6 to 8 members as suggestion by our BP. If there are more than 48 members in a troop, the pemimpin can divide the troop into two units. However, the troop will need two more Unit Pemimpins for each units and a Troop Pemimpin. So far this is what I understand. The troop I'm leading a troop with 62 scouts. But I don't have enough scoutmasters to lead two units. So I was wondering if I can do that for the time being... |

And we have 8 (IMG:http://www.pengakap.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) The formality of number of patrol per troop is only applicable to jamboree in general cases, whereby a troop will consist of 36 scouts that form 6 patrol or 4 patrol. 8 scouts per patrol is more commonly be. So we say 4 patrol per troop. This is true in more of the western countries where scout troops are mostly open group with retricted membership, where else, in malaysia scout troop normally operate under a school, and membership exceeding 100 scouts is not considered uncommom. So sometimes people call it scout group. Henry135 |

We are discussing a scout troop here, which consists of maximum 6 patrols with 8 members each if we follow strictly the direction from PPM. Correct me if I'm wrong because I only have Woodbadge Part I. (IMG:http://www.pengakap.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) |

At troop level in school that is no restriction on how many patrol you can form up within your groups. But there is school that break it and register them into two difference unit for the ease of administration and crowd control. |

Just register the same number but for admin, only break them up (i.e. Troop 01-A, Troop 01-B, Troop 01-C). Otherwise you'll have to pay RM10 per group (with different registration number). Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just a suggesting. And ya, anyone knows why the pre-set max for a troop is 48? I tot it's 36? Anyway, don't care bout the number, why is there a set max size?? Can anyone share the knowledge with us?? Thanks. |

Because 6 patrols with a maximum of 8 members each seems to be the unwritten law for PM and PR units. Thus, 6 multiply by 8 is 48 members per unit. Simple math. That also explains why the HQ only has 6 official patrol names for each PM and PR units. |
